In 2015, the Town of Amherst and Green Energy Consumers teamed up to run the "Flip the Switch Amherst" campaign. For every Amherst resident that made the switch to local renewable energy with Green Energy Consumers, Green Energy Consumers donated $40 to the Town of Amherst. This money will go towards purchasing an electric vehicle for Facilities Director Ron Bohonowicz, who has been driving around in a hand-me-down Crown Vic for several years.

Residents helped raise $3,520 for Amherst's new electric vehicle! This money combined with a grant provided by the state Department of Environmental Protection will allow the Town to purchase the electric vehicle in honor of the late Dr. Emlen Jones, a well-loved and respected pediatrician and a strong advocate for electric vehicles.
