I support H6055. Adopting Advanced Vehicle Emission Standards (House Bill 6055) because regulations like the Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Trucks standards will:  

  1. Help us Meet the Act on Climate 

Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Rhode Island. The EC4 estimated that Rhode Island will need roughly 86,000 registered electric vehicles (EVs) on the road by 2030 in order to reduce emissions 45% below 1990 levels. The state currently only has around 6,500 registered EVs. Rhode Island needs to dramatically improve EV adoption if we want to reach the Act on Climate, and the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) rule is the most effective tool to get us there.

  1. Protect Public Health 

Gas-powered vehicles cause a huge amount of public health harm by releasing particulate matter and other localized air pollution. The American Lung Association estimates that the cumulative health benefits of electrifying transportation will amount to nearly $4 billion by 2050 in Rhode Island alone.   

  1. Protect Rhode Island Consumers  

Car manufacturers will send their EV models first to states that adopt ACCII. To make sure that RI residents have access to the full range of electric model choices, we must join California and other states in adopting these standards.
