Support clean energy and the Massachusetts Sierra Club

Are you getting phone calls from companies you've never heard of asking you to switch to "green energy" - but you don't know who to trust?

You, like many of us, may not be able to put solar panels on your roof. Sierra Club and Green Energy Consumers Alliance have an easy way for you to purchase renewable energy for your home.  We have worked together for many years to advocate for better energy policy and are teaming up  now to help you switch to cleaner electricity.

You may have received offers in the mail to “go green.” Many of those offers do nothing to increase the renewable share of electricity in Massachusetts, and are profitable only to the companies providing the services. The Green Energy Consumers program, called Green Powered, actually increases the share of renewable energy in the Commonwealth, helping us to cut back faster on fossil-fuel consumption.

Which would you choose?

Pie charts comparing the utility's average mix and our renewable energy resources.

You can choose the electricity mix in just a few simple steps.

Most people’s electricity comes from fossil fuels and nuclear. When you make the switch through Green Energy Consumers' Green Powered program, your home’s electricity use brings renewable energy onto the grid instead. Green Energy Consumers uses the strength of 9,000 participants to support New England wind turbines, solar systems, and more.

When you switch, please mention that the Sierra Club referred you; Green Energy Consumers will donate up to $50 to us. Switch today — it’s easy. Once you do, you will continue to be billed as you are now; your utility will continue to deliver your electricity as it does today.

Let's talk pricing

Making the switch to Green Powered adds a small additional charge for your electricity.  For most households, it only adds $10-20 per month or 35-74 cents per day.

Your rate per kWh is determined by the Green Powered level you choose. You can select from two renewable energy options, which differ in price and content:

100% 25%
100% Class 1 wind from New England 25% Class 1 renewable energy from New England
3.8 cents/kWh added to your electric bill 2.2 cents/kWh added to your electric bill

Your total payments toward Green Powered are 100% federally tax-deductible.
