The Go-Green Campaign

"Going green" means reducing your impact on the environment. One of the easiest and most effective ways to do so is to switch to local green electricity. Consumers may make the switch to green electricity with one of Green Energy Consumers' two green power program options: 25% New England GreenStart and 100% New England Wind. If you are not ready or not eligible to make the switch, you can still support clean energy by making a donation to the New England Wind Fund (NEWF). We can all choose renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. Please consider putting your electricity dollar to work by bringing more renewable energy onto the New England power grid.

The UMass Lowell - Green Energy Consumers Alliance Partnership

By joining forces with Green Energy Consumers Alliance, members of the UMass Lowell community aim to provide increased public awareness of local green power programs and every consumer’s ability to impact the amount of green power on the grid regardless of where they live, how much energy they use, or whether they pay an electric utility bill.

The Climate Change Coalition, Engineers for a Sustainable World, and Thermodynamics students are hoping to spread the word that affordable renewable energy is the smart choice for a climate resilient future and it’s a choice we can all make today.

Green Electricity

By making the switch to green electricity with New England GreenStart or New England Wind, you are, in other words, "greening" your electricity consumption. This means that for every kilowatt-hour you consume, one kilowatt-hour of local, renewable energy will come onto the grid. By becoming a member of Green Energy Consumers' Green Powered program, you will join 8000 other Green Energy Consumers members that are building the demand for 100% New England renewable energy by putting more green power on the grid and displacing dirty fossil fuels that are polluting our environment!

By switching to local renewable energy, Green Energy Consumers' Green Powered program will add a small charge per kWh to your electric bill, in addition to regular electricity charges. The more or less electricity you use, the more or less you pay. And because Green Energy Consumers is a nonprofit, your total payments toward Green Energy Consumers' Green Powered program is 100% federally tax-deductible.

How do I switch to green electricity?

1) CHOOSE one of two renewable energy mix program options:

GP Table for Lowell LP

(Please note that the above charges are in addition to regular electric charges)

2) ENROLL in just 5 minutes by filling out the online join form. All you need is your electricity account number.

3) PAY YOUR ELECTRIC BILL as normal. You pay a few cents extra per kWh for renewable energy right on your bill (for National Grid or Eversource/Western MA customers) or on a credit card (for Eversource/Eastern MA customers)

If you decide to make the switch, please encourage your friends and family to be a part of this effort too!

How much will it cost for me?

Use our green power premium calculator to see how much making the switch to New England GreenStart or New England Wind would cost for your home's electric usage. Plus, see how many pounds of carbon emissions it would prevent!

If a monthly commitment isn't the best fit for your household, then please consider making a monthly or one-time donation of any amount to Mass Energy’s New England Wind Fund. Contributions to this Fund can be in any amount and will be used within 10 years to support local wind development. A $40 contribution would support one megawatt hour of wind power, or enough to power the average home for 6 weeks!
