Good news! Providence is making sure you can choose 100% green electricity for an affordable price.

Hi Friend,

The City of Providence has launched Providence Community Electricity, designed to offer affordable rates and 5% more renewable energy than required by state law to all Providence residents and businesses. (We're hosting a free webinar next week to explain Providence's program in detail. Register here.)

The program goes into effect on May 1st, 2023. Most residents will be automatically enrolled, but because you are a Green Powered/GreenUp member, you will not. Here are your options!

We recommend you enroll in Providence 100 – it's the greenest option for the best price.

Even though you may have received a letter stating you would be enrolled, you will not be automatically enrolled in Providence Community Electricity. This is because you participate our Green Powered program via Rhode Island Energy's GreenUp.

We recommend that you switch to Providence's 100% green option. It is more affordable than Rhode Island Energy's Last Resort Service + GreenUp, and still includes new renewable energy from Green Energy Consumers Alliance.

Switch to Providence 100

If you switch to Providence's program:

  • Nothing about how you pay your electric bill will change. You will still receive and pay the bill through Rhode Island Energy.
  • Your participation in Green Powered/GreenUp will automatically be cancelled.
  • You will still support new Rhode Island renewable energy sources.

If you do nothing:

  • You will not be enrolled in Providence Community Electricity.
  • You will continue to receive green electricity through Green Powered/GreenUp.

Here is a basic comparison of your green options, and how to switch.
